Cookie Policy
This Cookie Policy describes how NewsPoint Media Pte. Ltd. ("NewsPoint", "we") uses cookies and similar technologies on newspoint.life. It should be read with our Privacy Policy. We comply with Singapore's Personal Data Protection Act 2012 (PDPA) when cookies involve personal data.
1. What are cookies?
Cookies are small text files stored on your device when you visit a website. They help the site function, remember preferences, measure traffic, or deliver advertising. Similar technologies include local storage, session storage and pixel tags.
2. How we obtain consent
When you first visit newspoint.life, a banner offers three choices:
- Accept all — enables strictly necessary, analytics and advertising cookies;
- Reject all — enables only strictly necessary cookies;
- Customise — lets you toggle analytics and advertising categories separately.
Your choice is stored in a cookie named np_cookie_consent for six (6) months, after which the banner may reappear. Strictly necessary cookies do not require consent because the site cannot operate securely without them.
3. Cookie categories
3.1 Strictly necessary
These cookies are essential for core functions: load balancing, security, remembering cookie consent itself, and form integrity. They cannot be switched off via our banner.
| Name | Purpose | Duration |
|---|---|---|
| np_cookie_consent | Stores consent choice | 180 days |
| Session cookies | Security / routing | Session |
3.2 Analytics
Analytics cookies help us understand aggregate readership — which sections are read, approximate referral sources, and device types. We configure analytics to minimise identification of individuals where possible. Analytics cookies run only if you accept them or enable them in Customise.
Example vendors (when enabled): privacy-oriented web analytics providers (e.g. Plausible or Matomo-class tools), configured with IP truncation and without cross-site profiling for newsroom editorial decisions.
Typical duration: up to thirteen (13) months for persistent identifiers; session cookies expire when you close the browser.
3.3 Advertising
Advertising cookies support delivery and measurement of display ads that fund independent journalism. They may record ad impressions, limit repeat ads, and build coarse interest segments. They do not give advertisers access to your contact form submissions.
Example vendors (when enabled): Google AdSense / Google Ads measurement pixels, or comparable ad networks used on Singapore-facing news sites.
Typical duration: ninety (90) days to two (2) years depending on vendor; see vendor policies for detail.
3.4 Preferences
If we offer optional UI preferences (e.g. reduced-motion hint beyond browser settings), we may store them in local storage. Currently, primary preference storage is the consent cookie above.
4. How to change or withdraw consent
- Clear cookies in your browser settings and revisit the site to see the banner again;
- Use browser extensions that block analytics or advertising trackers;
- Email [email protected] if you need help locating consent records.
Withdrawing advertising consent does not remove ads entirely; you may still see non-personalised advertisements.
5. Third-party opt-out tools
For some ad networks you may use industry opt-out pages (for example, Google Ads Settings or the Network Advertising Initiative opt-out where available). Effectiveness varies by browser and region.
6. Do Not Track
Our site responds to the consent banner rather than legacy Do Not Track signals. Configure consent explicitly via Accept, Reject or Customise.
7. Updates
We may update this Cookie Policy when we add vendors or change categories. The "Last updated" date will change accordingly. Material changes may be communicated via a site notice.
